Been working on the color grade of Team Epic and had a few notes to pass on about Apple’s Color. This is the 2nd project I’ve graded with it and is exceedingly larger than the last project I graded.
A few notes about things I learnt the hard way that might save new users some time:
- Make sure the sequence that will be graded is consolidated to no more than 6 TRACKS before you send to color. In fact if you can get it to less than the better. Anything more and you won’t be able to see your lower layers once it’s in Color.
- Don’t have mixed codecs in your sequence. If you do Color won’t allow you to render your files back to the original format (in my case DVCPRO HD).
- On a side note - being able to track power windows with ease is great! I still get a kick out of it!

I’ve just launched a photography section on my site to post some of my photo work. The images are a culmination of stuff from past and present either from film sets, photo-shoots or just hanging out with friends.

I spent a day with my friend and singer Stacey Kaniuk shooting some stuff for her website that she’s planning on launching very soon. The weather was great and we got some great stuff.
Shot with my new Nikon D300 w/ 18-135mm lens. Still navigating my way through all it’s features.

What a darlin…
My friend Darrell Faria recently produced a music video for singer Dee Planche so I stopped by and shot some stills. Lots of familiar faces on the set, some that I haven’t seen in a while.
Shot with my Nikon D300 - really good test on low light situations. Shot most of it at ISO 1600 minimal (I think some stuff was at ISO 2500). Camera holds up really well compared to stuff I’ve shot on a D70 at 800 ISO. Need to still get some 1.4 or 1.8 lenses - the 18-135mm lens (3.5-5.6) is much too slow for situations like these - I’m looking at a 50mm and a 28mm
The video was directed by James Vanderwater and DP’d by James Klopko - two friends of mine. Good job guys!
You can find more info about the video as it becomes available here: yellowdicearts.com
Good times all around…
