Shot a short film project for Kasia Gruzska who’s adapted the work of Paulo Cohelo, author of the Alchemist. The story is about a girl named Athena who is passionate about her faith and set in her ways even if no one else agrees with her. The short was adapted as just a very small sliver to a much larger story.

We shot at the Runnymede Presbyterian Church in Toronto which was a beautiful location. DVX100 was the camera. It was mainly a Kino Flo kind of day with some smaller tungsten lamps to pepper things. The stained glass everywhere warmed up all the daylight coming through, and with the houselights on as a base, I was able to shoot tungsten balance.

Hazbeen

I just finished shooting a pilot project for a show called Hazbeen directed by Romeo Candido. It’s about a character named Dorian Vanderclamp who’s a washed up 80’s big hair rocker who’s trying to re-kickstart his career. The show is in the vein of the Office or Arrested Development - documentary approach, loose lensing and mainly handheld - though we did get some stuff on sticks which I think gives it a different feel from the other mockumentary approaches of other shows.

The original plan was to keep the lighting extremely flexible so we could potentially shoot any which way, but we ended up being able to light certain things a little more meticulously which was great. Generally a Long 4 Kino Flo and a Redhead or Chimera with some CTB was the plan of attack. We shot on DVX100’s - most scenes were covered with a single camera but our larger multi-character scenes were covered by 2 cameras.
